Cape Gooseberry Plant

A papery husked member of the Solanacea family, the Cape Gooseberry has been cultivated by the Inca in South America since ancient times. Recently this fruit has gotten a lot of attention as a superfood. We like it. It ripens very late in the season and is less productive than the other annual ground cherries, but the fruits are much more complex when they do finally ripen in September. They have a nice citrusy flavor that we really enjoy dried as a winter treat. Tastes like a tart tropical fruit when fresh.

moist-Dry, FS/PS, annual-save the seed
