Purple Giant Hyssop Plant

Purple Giant Hyssop Plant

This native hyssop is a powerhouse for pollinators. In a study in New Jersey this plant was found to attract 14 different species of Hymenoptera and Lepidoptera. It also attracted several species of native bumblebees, honeybees, as well as goldfinch and hummingbirds.  Purple giant hyssop grows 6-7 feet in height and is relatively short-lived for a perennial (usually 3-5 years) but self seeds in disturbed areas quite prolifically. Like many other mints this one is full of essential oils and flavanoids.
