Rattlesnake Master Plant

Rattlesnake Master Plant

Definitely has one of the coolest names of any native plant this carrot family relative is closely related to another medieval European vegetable called sea holly. Native to high quality habitats and tallgrass prairie remnants, this plant looks otherworldly with a shape more akin to aloe or Spanish needles. When it blooms it brings in pollinators from afar with profuse nectar production. Pioneers thought the root of this plant would cure snakebite but they were dead wrong, somehow the name stuck.
