Showy Sunflower Plant

Showy Sunflower Plant

This running sunflower is very closely related to Jerusalem Artichoke and has stiff, sandpaper-like leaves and forms colonies over time. Having a long bloom time from mid-summer to early fall means that it is wholly ‘abuzz’ for a long part of the season. We are experimenting with eating the flower buds of closely related species and plan to try the same with these. We know they make a great animal fodder for those of you trying to feed your livestock totally from your own land. A great native prairie plant for us here in Ohio.

Dry, FS/PS, perennial

Helianthus pauciflorus
